Kuala Lumpur, November 30: BOH Plantations Sdn Bhd, the leading tea producer in Malaysia with beginnings dating back to 1929, today kicked off International Tea Day 2017.
Held annually on December 15 since 2005, International Tea Day is organised in tea-producing countries to celebrate one of the world’s oldest beverages and the most widely consumed drink globally next to water. It also aims to draw attention to the impact of the international tea trade on workers and growers, and supports fair trade mechanisms.
The People that ‘make’ BOH
BOH’s decision to focus on employees and loyal consumers at the centre of its International Tea Day 2017 celebrations reinforces its appreciation to the many who have been involved in growing, processing and delivering the quality tea that BOH is synonymous with, as well as the millions of tea lovers who consume the 4 million kilograms of tea it produces annually (or the equivalent of 5.5 million cups daily).
“As a company that has mastered the art of tea, from tea bush to tea cup, BOH believes that this achievement has very much been made possible with the determination and passion from BOH employees at our Tea Gardens and our offices. We also have the millions of discerning BOH consumers who enjoy our distinctive blends of teas and continually support us. Indeed, you have all made BOH who we are today and International Tea Day is all about you,” said Caroline Russell, Deputy Chairman of BOH Plantations.
In wishing all Malaysians as well as international communities, a Happy International Tea Day, Russell said that more than just producing great tea, BOH also aspires to create memorable tea experiences for tea lovers. “Nothing beats putting up your feet and enjoying a great cup of tea, and what better time to ‘Share the Ummph’ and enjoy special moments with family and friends than on International Tea Day,” she added.
BOH’s ‘tea-rrific’ activities for the celebration
To commemorate International Tea Day 2017, BOH flagged-off their BOH Tea Tour which will visit select areas in the country via their BOH Mobile Tea Truck, with KL city as a starting point. The fun-filled BOH Tea Tour will see the brand serving up a range of their much-loved teas along with interesting activities.
The public is also invited to participate in the celebration that will take place on 15th December at the award-winning Sungei Palas BOH Tea Centre in Cameron Highlands.
A sustainable future for underprivileged kids
BOH, a truly homegrown brand that has a growing reputation among international tea lovers, has always been involved in community life and supported efforts to achieve a sustainable future for all.
This International Tea Day 2017, BOH contributed towards a sustainable future for underprivileged children by extending financial aid to the Dignity for Children Foundation. A cheque for RM20,000 was presented to the Foundation’s Chairman and Co-Founder, Rev. Elisha Satvinder at the EatXDignity Café, a training on Transformational Enterprises, operated by Dignity.
Russell also announced that BOH will extend its support beyond International Tea Day 2017 and will be part of Dignity’s Arts Exhibition Road Show cum fundraising initiative in 2018. Held in conjunction with the Foundation’s 20th anniversary celebration, it will display at least 60 pieces of artwork created by 20 existing students based on the theme ‘Redeeming Childhood, Restoring Hope’. Apart from raising funds to support the educational and developmental needs of Dignity’s charges, the exhibition also celebrates and nurtures young, artistic talent and sustains a long-term arts platform for urban, poor communities.
“This meaningful support from BOH comes at an opportune time as we celebrate Dignity’s 20th anniversary. Our decades-long experience can drive the success of our programmes but the continuity of such initiatives largely depends on the regular support and generosity of donors like BOH Plantations, who share our vision of nurturing underprivileged children to become invaluable members of the community through quality education, life skills training and care in a safe and secure environment,” said Rev. Elisha.
Established in Sentul almost two decades ago with only 20 students, Dignity for Children Foundation today helps more than 1,000 children ranging from 2 to 17 years old. They provide care and quality education programmes for pre-school to Form 5 students with suitable life skills training, internships and scholarship programmes.
