Appreciating Single Origin Teas

Similar to the concept used with wine, teas which come from a particular location are often sought after for their delicate taste profile and unblended nature.

BOH’s Garden Teas are part of our single origin tea selection as these teas come from select BOH tea gardens. The Garden Teas are very delicate teas as they are produced with mainly young tea shoots (we call it two leaves and a bud) and specially harvested at intervals where young tea leaves are in flush. What all 4 of the Garden Teas share in common are their delicate and fragrant aroma. Single origin teas are often drank plain, so the tea’s fragrance plays a key role for the tea drinkers experience, unlike commercially harvested teas which have stronger body and colour as they are meant to be drank with milk.

The Garden Tea collection consists of Palas Supreme, Palas Afternoon Tea, Gunung Chantik and Bukit Cheeding No.53, each with their own unique characteristics.

The Palas Supreme and Palas Afternoon Tea are picked from our Sungei Palas tea plantation, hence the name ‘Palas’. The Gunung Chantik also comes from the highest peak of the Sungei Palas tea plantation but is graded differently compared to the Palas Supreme and Palas Afternoon Tea.

  • Palas Supreme: Flowery Pekoe of Ceylon and Assam varieties imparting an exquisite and delicate aroma. With its pure and delicate fragrance, this large-leafed amber tea is best enjoyed plain throughout the day.
  • Palas Afternoon Tea: Full leaf Orange Pekoe ‘A’ that dispels a light aroma and delicate flavours to create a tea that is soothing and calming, best served and enjoyed plain.
  • Gunung Chantik: Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings, made using only the tender young buds from BOH’s highest garden peak. Only the finest leaves are selected which embody its distinct and intense flavour.

The Bukit Cheeding No 53. is the only garden tea from our lowland tea plantation in Bukit Cheeding, Selangor and from a specific field. It is a tea with a strong flavour when compared to its garden tea siblings but its robust character and rich flavour make it a stand out tea.

  • Bukit Cheeding No.53: Broken Orange Pekoe breakfast tea, embodied with robust flavours and an enduring taste, best served with milk and sugar.
