Embracing Change in 2021

A popular quote, ‘Change is inevitable, change is constant.’ speaks true as we close out 2020 and welcome 2021. COVID-19 upended almost everyone’s lives and some of us have had to make drastic adjustments to our lifestyles and many social norms have completely changed. With hopes of a successful vaccine reaching the shores of many countries, 2021 has many of us optimistic of a recovery and a return to some normalcy.

If 2020 had a positive it showed that we have the capacity to adapt and change. We integrated technology in our daily lives from ordering groceries to having group meetings/gatherings. We spent more time with loved ones and many picked up a hobby or two. 2021 should be a year we embrace change even further and here are some suggestion to turn 2021 into your year!

1. Invest in Yourself

  • Being stuck at home gave some of us the opportunity to explore new things. Many picked up new hobbies, more people read books, and others developed interesting new skills. So now that you have the basics down, why not take your new talents one step further? Sign- up online for that certificate or degree you’ve been putting off, set up a social media channel to share your recipes (and generate some side income), or learn in-demand skills like coding which is crucial as technology continues to integrate into our lives. Bottom line, investing in yourself will have a positive effect on your live heading into 2021.

2. Have a Plan

  • Change can be great… if you have a plan in place. Nothing good happens if you don’t plan for it so make sure you have clear goals set. You don’t have to complicate things. Have a physical or digital diary to constantly remind you of your short and long-term goals and stick to them. For example, if you want to run 10km in 45mins by the end of the year, make sure you set a monthly or even weekly targets to get to your long-term goal. Whether it’s your health, finances or a personal goal, plan out things ahead and set yourself up for success.

3. Keep Yourself Healthy

  • The stress a pandemic can have on our physical and mental health is quite dangerous if we do not manage it carefully. 2021 does not mean COVID is eradicated but we can take steps to improve our physical and mental health. Exercising, sleeping right and eating well balanced meals will have a positive effect on our body as we improve our immune system to fight of diseases. Even, drinking a cup of green tea can also help in improving your overall health. Take 2021 as an opportunity to improve your body and mind so that you have the strength to reach your goals.
