Happy Eid al-Fitr and Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri

Depending where you are in the world, Eid al-Fitr or Hari Raya Aidilfitri will fall on the 13th or 14th of May 2021. It is one of the biggest festivals in the world as it marks the end of Ramadhan. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is celebrated over three days and is a time to visit family and friends, present gifts to loved ones, visit the graves of relatives, and feast on delicious food.

Last year, The COVID-19 pandemic brought the world to a halt and almost all celebrations by every religion were, at worst, non-existent and muted at best. This year, with the rollout of vaccines and most countries starting to vaccinate the population there is hope for brighter and merrier celebrations. However, we still need to be careful as we enjoy this wholesome celebration as best we can.

Visit Safely, or Do a Video Call

We are all excited to visit our friends and relatives, but always keep social distancing in mind and wear your mask. The elderly especially needs to take extra precautions as they are at a higher risk category. However, if you are not able to visit friends or family this Ramadhan, you can always do a video call. All of us have gotten accustomed to video calling, so if travelling is a risk, a heartful video call will bring a smile to your loved ones just as much as a physical visit.

Feasting!

Rendang, ketupat, kuih lapis, kuih bangkit, the list of delicious mouth-watering food that is a staple for any Raya Aidilfitri celebrations is one every Malaysian cannot wait! Most of us only enjoy these delicacies once a year so when the aromatic scents and pleasant flavours hit your taste buds, the feeling is just wonderful. Pairing this with a delicate tea such as BOH Potbag or a cool Ice Tea amps up these flavours even further. The best part is, every home has their own variations of popular Raya dishes and you get to savour so many different flavours from the homes you visit.

Bring along a souvenir

Customary to visiting friends and family, presenting a gift is sure to brighten up the festivities. For this Raya, why not try giving something different such as tea? An assortment of exquisite teas such as Signature BOH Teas or single origin Garden Teas are sure to be welcome gifts to any household.

Remember Your Raya Etiquette

Gentle reminder to mind your Raya etiquette if you are doing any house visits. Aim to be neatly attired and remember to remove your shoes before entering your host’s home. It is also customary to give greetings or memberi salam to your hosts and elders by clasping hands, but with the current pandemic situation, you might want to consider placing your right hand on your chest and give a short nod to your hosts.
